Things you don't like or have a Phobia to
I was just posting on another topic before, talking about not liking the depths of the sea (I find it really scary) and that made me think of spiders (for some strange reason)
which also makes me shiver. It's not that spiders frighten me, as in scared of them hurting me, it's the look of them and when they move (shiver ewww) I don't even like the word 'spider' sends shivers right down my spine.
So I have a real fear of them.
So it got me thinking of what are you afraid of or have a phobia of?

This might sound daft, but the way canal lock gates hold all that water back really makes me quiver, s'pose thats a bit like the depths of the sea?
I don't like fairground rides that go backwards and upside down at the same time.
The feel of new wood, like on lolly ice sticks or new wooden spoons has the same effect as scratching fingernails down a blackboard LOL

Re: Things you don't like or have a Phobia to
I understand the wood thing. I used to hate using the wooden recorder at school, it used to go right through me, made my teeth hurt and me squirm lol...eek. I hate to bite on the wood, although unpleasant, I bit on it to try and get rid of the sensitive feeling. Sounds daft,i know..abit like someone rubbing a balloon, that goes right through me to, but obviously i don't bite balloons!
I know what you mean about canal lockes, it holds alot of water and is very noisy too.
I used to like going backwards on fairground rides, found it better than going forward when my stomach left me! not sure about upside down though. I guess i grew out of the excitment, as just going on a swing now makes me feel dizzy.

Eeeek Balloons and Blackboards!! no thanks, I can't stand that noise
mayabe it's because i am sensitive and attuned to healing vibrations, that that frequency pierces right through me, i dont know, is that the same for you both claire and Destiny? do you think it's because we are working on a higher vibration that noises like that tend to go through us or is it like this for most people? it's like I used to listen to very loud music and didnt mind loud noise, but now since i got into healing, i can't stand it.Certainly thought provoking dont you think?

i dont know if its a phobia, i guess it must be, but i hate small over crowded places. something that sticks in my mind is one of those national coaches. they always pack them out with people and they seem so tiny inside with not much room for movement.

i'll stick to train travel which is my favourite

Iguess thinking about it, i have a phobia (or at least a dislike) of moterways. i just dont like traveling on them at all. i dont like the feeling that i cant get off whenever i want to, but have to wait until the next exit, which could be miles down the road.
I tend to avoid them whenever i can

WW i dont think that's particularly a fear of the motorway itself. It's a fear of feeling trapped and not in control. I understand what you mean, it's a similar thing to being a passenger in a car, you don't feel in control and have to trust the driver.
Neptune, yours sounds like claustrophobia to me. Fear of tight spaces. Alot of people don't like this. Or agrophobia a fear of open spaces.
Who am i all of a sudden, a psychologist! lol

Re: Things you don't like or have a Phobia to
I am terrified of birds! I can handle them in cages but if they are out and flying around I panic. I've had a few awful experiences with birds and I swear they are out to get me ...not really but it can seem that way
There are two things I can't stand. One is the feeling of wet clothes like when you get caught in the rain. It actually makes me feel nauseous and the other is flour. Strange I know and I don't even know what it is about flour that I don't like other than the mess it makes. Oh and there is one more thing that I really do not like and that is windmill generators. I just find them very eerie and of course they are putting them everywhere in my area. I can't get away from them anymore.

Re: Things you don't like or have a Phobia to
you know i've heard that before.Quite a few people are terrified of birds.Me included!! i can handle them in a cage too but get them out and Im off lol.......
i know where mine comes from though,we used to have a budgie when i was little and my dad used to take her out of the cage for a fly about, and she flew all over the front room bashing into alsorts! he used to put her on his chest too and tried to get me to hold her on my hand, she pecked my dad quite hard and it scared me. I never liked soething flying over my head anyway, even footballs lol, cause ive been hit a few times in the face by one,and bi eck it doesnt half hurt
but the bird thing i think comes from that and i used to run out of the room and shut the door, sitting outside saying has she gone in yet,and not believing that she was back in her cage, when she was.
Then about 5 years ago when i lived with my parents again, my dad (who loves birds) bought a cockatiel which was a lovely bird, sat in its cage in the house,he let her out to fly about too,but i still didnt like it so i always disappeared when she was out,my dad tried to help me with the fear of birds, but i just couldnt go near it,only when in the cage, but still couldnt touch her. My dad then got an avairy! lol....and got alsorts of birds in there from cockateil, too those cute little love birds, cant think of the name now, there are always in pairs, they are tiny little things that snuggle up together on the perch. He also got another cokateil companion for the first one he had....aha...finches are the name of those cute little birds.so he had loads in there. My sister and dad used to go out into the avary outisde to feed, water and clean their avary up. I could never go in cause they always went mad, flying over your head...!
They were lovely to look at and watch through the conservtory windows, and listen to singing in the morning,my sister always whistled to them. There's a sad story about one of them that died, the first one 'little Winston' and i cant bring myself to speak about iton here
upsets me too much...
ok,moving on......my dad love birds that much, that he went out and bought a Parrot and named her Pippa, shes beautiful and so funny too.she talks all the time and does the annoying phone ring! haha...she seems to have a special bond with my sister mostly as they can both whistle the same, although my dad always says to her' give us a wave' and we used to say to him, dont be daft she cant wave, but she does you know! she flaps her wing out and waves it!! she also laughs too and its a right dirty laugh too! havent a clue where she gets that from.......but it isnt me!
anyway, i was really scared about her coming out of her cage too as she was much bigger than the rest and she couldnt half peck if she wanted too, apparently it can be quite nasty.I eventually plucked up the courage to stay in the room whilst she learned to fly abit and she kept setting off and bumping into things, she didnt hurt herself and it was quite funny to watch. i also had her on my shoulder and arm but i was really nervous and she could pick that up too. im still not entirely comfortable with it,but it was an improvement.
I had her stop at my house for a week, which actually rolled into two weeks! lol...whilst my parents went away,as i had to bird sit! anyway,it was the first time wingman came over and she used to listen to him whistling and whistled back and gave cheek, she started swearing too.......ooh wonder where she got that from then!
Not seen her for quite some time now as everybodys been visting over here instead. Id love to know what Nathan would make of her though although i would make sure she was locked in her cage whilst nathan was around.
right i went off on yet another tangent then! sorry about that. almost forgot where i was then.i had a friend that was terrified of actually the sound of birds! she said she really couldnt explain it..now that i find strange, unless something happened in her life although she says it didnt, suppose it could be from another life she is remembering.
That flour one does sound strange, but again it could be from another lifetime, how odd

Re: Things you don't like or have a Phobia to
Never apologize for your tangents Claire, I think they are great and more often than not there is always something that gives me a giggle in them. Not to mention you own the forum which I think gives you tangent rites
I know where my fear of birds come from as well. We used to have budgies and I loved them! However a friend and I went down to eat our lunch at the water but stayed in our car. We were surrounded by seagulls and he decided to throw a french fry out the window. Well one brave b*&%^ decided to come right on in the car and the three of us were trapped in there together and the bird was frantic trying to fly and get out ( although I'd like to point out I was much more frightened
) and in the process I was getting bashed about the head with it's wings and god only knows what other body part. By the time I was able to get myself out of the car I was just a blubbering mass and I have not liked them since. Then just as I thought I was getting over the incident we took a trip to California and went to the San Diego Sea World and the same friend thought it would be smart to buy a basket of smelt to feed the sea lions. Well we were standing there and another particularily pushy seagull decided to start dive bombing us for the fish and yet again I was being bashed about the head. There are a few other stories that have caused my extreme dislike of birds such as an exploding pidgeon
(kid you not!) but I'll spare you all.
You are right Claire birds are lovely to look at and I'm sure some can be very nice to have as pets but I think I'll keep to my little jack russell!

I don't like both snakes or clowns myself. I don't have a fear of them as such though, well a phobia, and they both make me shiver but not like spiders do!
funnily enough i was just talking about clowns and those Perriott dolls with blacks and white faces the other day, saying how eery i think they look, sez her that doesn't mind ghosts!

I also dont like those mimers either, people who mime and the way they are dressed, gives me the creeps!

Im the same with spiders.and although they say the greatest way to conquer your fears is to face them head on! - no thanks, think i'll pass in this case!! although paul Mckenna would think differently as i remember watching his programs and one partucular week,it was somebody who had a fear of spiders, and they faced them with a ...............

Hi gem and welcome to the forum
It seems this fear of clowns is very common, They have never been the same for me since i saw "IT" a film written by Stephen King. this is about a very scarey clown who goes around hiding in drains and stealing children
Enough said "YUK!!!"
